Lead - Livelihood & Entrepreneurship Awareness Development Project for /Rural Youth
Context - Rural Entrepreneurship: The Current Scenario in India
Rural entrepreneurship engages the masses in manufacturing output, by providing employment opportunities, assists in industrialization of rural & backward areas, thereby, assuring regional balanced development and reducing migration of youth to urban areas. It plays a pivotal role in distribution of income & wealth at grassroots level in developing countries like India.
Rural Entrepreneurship: Current Issues & Problems
- Infrastructure: After over seven decades of independence and industrialization in India, still a large population lives in rural areas. Rural areas are affected by major challenges like unemployment or underemployment in primary industries, lack of infrastructure, market, and financial access.
- Reverse Migration: Demonetization & COVID-19 epidemic has led to closure of many micro and small enterprises, leaving millions of people unemployed. It has severe effects on the poor section of the society especially small scale entrepreneurs& employees, agriculturists, daily wage workers. This had led to migration of people back to their homes in rural areas, creating additional burden on already unemployed rural sector.
Requirement for CASE CSR Intervention:
Under the LEAD (Livelihood & Entrepreneurship Awareness Development) initiative, CASE Construction is aiming to promote and provide support to rural youth about entrepreneurship by offering them (a) Training (b) Guiding them about the entrepreneurial avenue and ventures in local area in agriculture & infrastructure sector.
Methodology
Door to Door Awareness - D2D awareness programme is executed by region wise NGO and knowledge partner which are in livelihood & social development. Approach for D2D Reach- There is a mobile training center moving from village to village to interact with target profiles.
Implementation Insight
Started in February 2023, the LEAD project was rolled out with a Flag-Off Event on the 27th of February at CASE Constructions Head Office - New Delhi, India.
The Project was initially implemented in the Delhi NCR region, by the end of the month of July, the project covered 5 regions of Delhi, Karnataka, Telangana, Madhya Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh, successfully reaching out to over 19600 rural population in around 1350 villages of 21 districts. Starting in the last week of September, the project focused extensively on the villages of Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh and Uttar Pradesh, which so far has reached out to more than 39,000 rural population in 1600 villages.
During the course of the program's implementation, it became evident that a significant portion of the youth had not pursued higher education and were instead involved in the daily operations of their family's agricultural land or small village shops. It was clear that the rural population had limited or no knowledge of the numerous opportunities for rural entrepreneurship. The introduction of these entrepreneurial possibilities and resources through the LEAD program was highly appreciated.
Lead 2
This project is an extension of LEAD project with a view to increasing reach by extending to more location. Through LEAD 2, thproject will in Bihar, Jharkhand & Rajasthan through 20 activities.

Environment Conservation/Pollution Control
Tree plantation
India is home to nearly a fifth of the world’s population. It is the land of beautiful and diverse landscapes, rich in natural resources. The country faces grave challenges of large-scale environmental pollution on a daily basis. Air pollution in India has reached hazardous levels. It is the responsibility of every single individual to protect the planet against pollution & help in conserving it for future generations.
Taking the baton of “Green Initiatives” further, It was decided to implement “Tree Plantation Project” under CSR around Pithampur plant. Tree Plantation Project was initiated on World Environment Day on 5th June, 2018, at Pithampur Plant by Greening the divider, leading to plant & beyond to align with Global CSR Policy of Environment Protection.
We have planted 5000 saplings on a stretch of divider, measuring approximately 4.5km in front of the Pithampur plant. CASE will also maintain the stretch for one year. Plantation drive will also be carried out in Schools & Panchayat land of villages adjoining Pithampur Plant.

Miyawaki Plantation
Miyawaki Plantation is a method of afforestation developed by Japanese botanist Akira Miyawaki. It involves planting a large number of native tree species very closely together in order to create a dense, self-sustaining forest. The method is designed to promote biodiversity and increase the rate of carbon sequestration compared to traditional afforestation techniques. Miyawaki Plantation has been implemented in several cities in India, including Delhi, Mumbai, and Bangalore. The method has been used to create urban forests, which help to improve air quality, reduce urban heat island effects, and provide green spaces for residents. The method has been found to be successful in India due to its suitability to Indian conditions, such as high population density, scarce land, and limited water availability. It has significant impact to combat climate change and increase the country's forest cover.
